Claude X Powerpoint
Every student has been there. You have a presentation due in two days, you open a blank PowerPoint, and thirty minutes later you have a title slide and a vague sense of dread. The content exists somewhere in your head or in your notes. Getting it onto slides that actually look good is the part that takes forever.
Claude now lives directly inside PowerPoint as a sidebar. You do not switch tabs, copy content across, lose your formatting, and paste everything back. Claude reads your actual file, understands your template, and works with you inside the deck you already have open.
Here is exactly how to set it up and use it.
What You Need Before You Start

Claude Pricing Plan
Claude for PowerPoint requires a paid Claude account. The Pro plan starts at $20 per month and is the entry point for most individual users.
If you are not ready to pay yet, bookmark this and come back when you are. The free version of Claude at claude.ai handles writing and research well but does not include the PowerPoint add-in.
What you need: A Claude Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise account Microsoft PowerPoint desktop app on Windows or Mac The web version of PowerPoint does not support the add-in
Step 1: Install the Add-in

Claude Powerpoint Extension
Open your browser and go to Microsoft AppSource. Search for "Claude by Anthropic for PowerPoint" and click Get It Now. The installation takes under two minutes.
Once installed, open PowerPoint on your desktop. You will see a Claude icon appear in the Home ribbon at the top. Click it, sign in with your Claude account, and the sidebar opens on the right side of your screen. You are ready to go.
What Claude Can Do Inside PowerPoint
Build slides from a description
Type what your presentation needs to cover, who the audience is, and what you want them to walk away thinking. Claude reads your existing template including the fonts, colors, and slide layouts and generates new slides that match your design. You do not get a generic deck you have to reformat from scratch. You get slides that already belong in your file.
Edit with precision
Select any slide and tell Claude exactly what to change. Rewrite this bullet point. Shorten this heading. Turn this list into a visual layout. Claude makes the specific edit you asked for without touching anything else in your deck.
Restructure your story
If your presentation logic is not landing, describe the argument you are trying to make and ask Claude to suggest a better slide order. It reads your whole deck and responds with a restructured narrative that flows more clearly.
What Claude Can Do Inside PowerPoint

Real Use Case by Kaishu
Here is a scenario that will sound familiar. Your group project presentation is due Friday. Your team has put together ten slides of bullet points with no visual consistency and no clear narrative thread. You have two hours before your next class.
Open Claude in PowerPoint. Describe what the presentation needs to achieve. Ask it to clean up the structure, rewrite the bullets for clarity, and make the slides consistent with your template. What would normally take two hours of formatting and rewriting takes twenty minutes.
This is not about Claude doing your thinking for you. It is about Claude handling the mechanical work so you can focus on the ideas.
What It Cannot Do Yet
Honest reviews build more trust than promotional ones so here is what to know going in.
Claude can only work with files that are currently open. It cannot open, close, or switch between files on its own. You need to open everything manually before starting.
Chat history does not save between sessions. Each time you close PowerPoint and reopen it, the conversation starts fresh. For most student workflows this is not a problem but it is worth knowing.
Where to Start Today
If you have a presentation coming up in the next two weeks, install the add-in today and give it one test run with your actual file. Open your deck, describe what you need, and watch Claude generate slides using your own template.
The five minutes it takes to set up will tell you more about whether this fits your workflow than anything else I can write here.
